Recently, the control of Coronavirus Disease(COVID-19) in Beijing has been severe and complicated. All teachers, students, and staff of BIT jointly built a solid barrier for epidemic prevention. On the evening of May 24, 2022, TELI College and Lingwen College have co-hosted an online joint carnival, "The Combat of World Pandemic, The Voice of BIT Youth", to further enrich students 'campus life. 19 BIT students from TELI College and Lingwen College shared stories of "Pandemic in China, the responsibility of teachers and students in Covid-19 response, and their learning and living experience under special circumstances in English, demonstrating the excellent comprehensive quality and youth power of the BIT's Chinese and foreign students.

Xu Jian, Director of Student Affairs Department of BIT, Wang Ying, Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Department, Director of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Office, and Director of International Student Center, Feng Huihua, Executive Deputy Dean of XUTELI School/School of Future and Technologies, Zhang Ji, Secretary of the Party Committee of XUTELI School, and nearly 300 students and teachers from TELI College and Lingwen College and other colleges participated in the online activities. Gong Jun from the School of Foreign Languages, Chen Hui from the International Student Center, Mei Bingang and Yang Xiaonan from the School of Mechanical Engineering acted as the judges of this carnival speech contest. The event was co-hosted by Yu Chunxiao of Lingwen College and Zhang Zijun of TELI College.

The English speech contest of the carnival is divided into two halves, interspersed with student talent shows. 9 international students from South Korea, Bangladesh, Pakistan and other nationalities eloquently recounted what they had seen, thought and felt since the epidemic, expressed their support and understanding of China's epidemic prevention and control policies, and narrated their concerned cases.  

Starting from their own academic progress and dormitory life, 10 TELI students told the story of how the teachers, students and staff of BIT working together to fight the epidemic and overcome the difficulties since the severe situation of COVID-19 control in Beijing, and expressed their gratitude to the school's teachers, students and staff at the forefront of epidemic control. Foreign students from Lingwen College played and sang songs such as "Heal the World", "Wei Wei" and "The Lonely Brave", conveying their wishes and expectations with their singing. The beautiful melody and melodious singing ignited the enthusiasm of the audience.

In the competition commenting session, the four judges commented on the performance of the speech contestants in turn.The judges also expressed their appreciation to the BIT’s students for their great pattern, courageous, optimistic, open-minded and tenacious fighting spirit. In the end, 6 students including Rona (Pakistan) and Liu Danxu won the gold award, and 13 students including Lanna (Turkmenistan) and Zhang Zhaoxi won the silver award. Feng Huihua read out the list of award-winning students and summarized the progress of the activity.

This online joint carnival takes the principle and goal of "Active Planning, Attracting Demand, Inter-college Collaboration, Helping to Fight the Pandemic", and innovates the college collaboration model under the situation of pandemic control. During the event, the Chinese and foreign students of BIT showed their professional qualities, outstanding talents and cross-cultural communication ability, which fully demonstrated the majestic youth strength of BIT Chinese and foreign students who are united as one, not afraid of hardships and dangers, and bravely shoulder their responsibilities.

We firmly believe that with the joint efforts of the school and our students, we will surely win the battle of campus epidemic control, and bring our beautiful BIT campus back to prosperity!
